Optical Fibre Specs
The TC 86 series of subordinate specifications for media characteristics are IEC 60793-2 (most notably -10 and -50).
EC 60793-2-10/50 are referenced in ISO/IEC 11801, which defines performance categories. ISO/IEC 11801 performance categories are most commonly referenced in various application standards such as IEEE-802.3 (Ethernet) and ANSI/INCITS-T11 FC (Fibre Channel).
In North America, TIA/EIA has parallel specifications for fibre characteristics referenced in the TIA 568B Structured Cabling Standard.

Optical loss budgets and operating distances are provided for the following hardware components:
- ADB Mate Link: Optical Loss Budget and Operating Distance
- Fibre Channel HBA: Optical Loss Budget and Operating Distance
- All Ethernet standards defined in IEEE-802.3-2008 and associated annexes.
- Loss budget includes all losses in the fibre media including channel losses, splices, and connectors.
