NAB Port and Cabling Specifications

This section provides details on Ethernet and optical port cabling requirements for the following Network Acceleration Blades (NABs):

• NAB-0210EM—The NAB-0210EM supports up to two 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE) interfaces.
• NAB-0801ET—The NAB-0801ET supports up to eight GigE interfaces through RJ-45 connectors only.
• NAB‑0610EM—The NAB-0610EM supports up to six 10GigE interfaces.
• NAB‑0810EM—The NAB-0810EM supports up to eight 10GigE interfaces.

NAB-0210EM

There are two versions of the NAB-0210EM:

• NAB-0210EM-01—A single slot blade that occupies the 1/6 slot of the blade carrier in a Solace 3560.
• NAB-0210EM-04—A double slot blade that occupies the 1/5 and 1/6 slots of the CHS-3560AC-01 chassis.

Fiber-Optic Connections

The two 10GigE Small Form-factor Pluggable+ (SFP+) ports on a NAB-0210EM come preinstalled with removable 10GBase-SR SFP+ modules to allow for optical fiber connections using shortwave laser optics over multimode optical fiber (MMF) cable. These modules provide a 10 Gbps optical GigE connection to a network through 850nm (SR) fiber-optic links that uses LC physical connectors (as shown below). They are field-replaceable and provide uplink interfaces when inserted into the SFP+ ports of the NAB, thereby linking the appliance event brokers with the backbone network.

The required fiber-optic cables with LC connector ends are not supplied by Solace.

Twinax Connections

The SFP+ NAB ports can also be used with the following types of Twinax (twinaxial) cables when the pre-installed SFP+ modules are removed from the NAB ports:

• active limiting Twinax cables with SFP+ connector ends (5–10 m in length)
• passive Twinax cables with SFP+ connector ends (0.5–7 m in length)

The figure below shows an accepted suitable Twinax cable with a SFP+ connector end.

Faceplate LEDs

All versions of the NAB-0210EM have two faceplate LEDs by the SFP+ ports to indicate the link and activity status of each port:

• green link LED—indicates network connectivity when on
• yellow activity LED—indicates receive activity when blinking

The specific location of these LEDs on a faceplate depends on the version of NAB-0210.

NAB-0801ET

The NAB-0801ET supports up to eight GigE interfaces through RJ-45 connectors only. It occupies slots 1/5 and 1/6 of the blade carrier in a Solace 3560.

Faceplate LEDs

The NAB-0801ET uses two faceplates and occupies two slots in the blade carrier. It has two faceplate LEDs on each of the eight RJ-45 Ethernet ports to indicate their link and activity status:

• the green link LED indicates network connectivity when on
• the yellow activity LED indicates receive activity when blinking

Electrical GigE Wiring Specifications

The NAB-0801ET comes with eight RJ-45 ports. Connect to these ports with CAT‑5e unshielded twisted pair cable. Cross-over or straight‑through Ethernet cables are supported.

In all cases cable length should not exceed 330 feet (100 meters).

NAB‑0610EM

The NAB-0610EM supports up to six 10GigE interfaces configured through SFP+ ports. It occupies slots 1/5 and 1/6 of the blade carrier in a Solace 3560.

Fiber-Optic Connections

The six 10GigE SFP+ ports on a NAB-0610EM come pre-installed with removable 10GBase-SR SFP+ modules to allow for optical fiber connections using shortwave laser optics over MMF cable.
