Enabling SEMP Over the Message Bus

You can configure your event broker service to allow client applications to make SEMP requests over the message bus using defined topics. Enabling this option in Cluster Manager allows clients to run Show User EXEC commands on the Message VPN for your event broker service. By default, the SEMP Request Over Message Bus is disabled for enhanced security and to keep your SEMP Show commands hidden.

You may want to enable SEMP over the message bus to allow other teams, such as your application development teams to use SEMP Show commands without providing a higher access level. Messaging applications that use APIs can only view your settings without changing them. You may also want to allow access to SEMP Show commands to a new connector that you're connecting to your event broker service. This connector can then read the backlog for the queues that it connects to.

To enable SEMP over the message bus, perform these steps:

  1. Log in to the PubSub+ Cloud Console if you have not done so yet. The URL to access the Cloud Console differs based on your authentication scheme. For more information, see Logging In to the PubSub+ Cloud Console.
  2. On the navigation bar, select Cluster Manager .
  3. Select the event broker service that you want to configure. If the event broker service is not listed, make sure you have the right environment selected. For more information, see Selecting Environments.
  4. On the service details page, select the Manage tab and then click Advanced Options.
  5. On the SEMP Request Over Message Bus tile, click the toggle to enable the feature.

Enabling SEMP over the message bus in Cluster Manager only allows Show commands on the specified Message VPN. On event broker services version 10.10 and later, Mission Control Managers can allow additional SEMP command types over the message bus using the Message VPN advanced settings in PubSub+ Broker Manager.

For more information, see SEMP.
