Appliance Hardware Health

Solace Insights Monitors for Datadog Reference provides information to help you understand how to read and filter the information provided by the monitors offered by your Insights Datadog account.

These monitors track hardware health metrics for appliance event brokers with Insights for self-managed event brokers. They are scoped to appliance event broker only using the peb_type:appliance filter and do not trigger alerts for cloud or self-managed software brokers.

Monitor Name Monitor Type Status Default Severity Configured Details
NPU Temperature High Metric Active

Alert or Warning

The Network Processing Unit (NPU) temperature exceeds the configured thresholds. This monitor tracks the maximum temperature over the last five minutes using the mainboard.sensors.sensor.value metric for NPU temperature sensors.

The default thresholds are:

  • Warning: 90°C
  • Alert (Critical): 95°C

Predicted Impact: If the NPU temperature continues to rise, the appliance event broker may throttle performance or shut down to prevent hardware damage.

Recommended Actions: Check the appliance event broker's cooling system and environmental conditions. Verify that fans are operating correctly and air flow is not obstructed. Review the Appliance Health Overview dashboard for additional environmental sensor data. Contact Solace for assistance if necessary.

Fan Speed Low Metric Active

Alert or Warning

A cooling fan's speed has fallen below the configured thresholds. This monitor tracks the minimum fan speed over the last five minutes using the mainboard.sensors.sensor.value metric for fan sensors.

The default thresholds are:

  • Warning: 2000 RPM
  • Alert (Critical): 1000 RPM

Predicted Impact: If fan speed continues to degrade, the appliance event broker's cooling capacity will be reduced, which may lead to high temperatures and potential hardware failure or automatic shutdown.

Recommended Actions: Inspect the affected fan for physical obstructions or mechanical failure. Review the Appliance Health Overview dashboard for temperature trends that may indicate cooling issues. Contact Solace for assistance if necessary.

Sensor Failure Status Active

Alert

An environmental sensor has reported a failure or non-OK status. This monitor uses the system.sensor_status check to detect sensors in a failed state, including voltage, temperature, and fan sensors on both mainboard and NAB slot/blade locations.

Predicted Impact: A failed sensor may indicate an underlying hardware problem or may prevent accurate monitoring of environmental conditions. In some cases, sensor failures can indicate imminent hardware failure.

Recommended Actions: Review the sensor details in the Appliance Health Overview dashboard to identify which sensor has failed. Check for related temperature or fan speed alerts that may indicate the cause. Contact Solace for assistance if necessary.
